Okay, NewTek announced 5.0 - and they are taking orders. (They actually
have a phone booth in the booth to call in orders - it's cute, actually)
It has Open GL support in layout and modeler, better IK, and (BIG deal)
multiple surfaces - you can layer and layer producedural or image mapping.
The interface has a number of improvements, too....
LightWave has changed prices - all platforms now have one price. (Wacky
idea - kinda like we ANNOUNCED, before people started playing games...but
I digress....but I do often....) That price is $1495 - so Intel went up,
Alpha and SGI went down. Upgrades price seems to be $495 - not exaclty a
deal...but NewTek is going broke and this IS a must-have upgrade - the
intial user base will pay, of course...
There is a Mac in the booth, but it's not doing anything and NewTek seems
to only be saying - 'wait until Tuesday'
There's more, but I wanted to get some info up...
